Previously an energetic, bright and sociable little boy, Blade Hill aged 9, was recently diagnosed with a rare degenerative brain disease known as Adrenoleukodystrophy (or ALD) which mostly affects young boys. At first, patients simply show behavioural problems, such as withdrawal or difficulty concentrating. Gradually, as the disease ravages the brain, a patient’s symptoms grow worse and they suffer seizures, loss of muscle control, and progressive dementia. Blade’s brain function, motor coordination and ability to communicate with others have declined rapidly and he will need considerable long-term support as the disease progresses.
Following Blade’s diagnosis, it was found that his older brother, Jordan aged 12, also has this crippling genetic disease. In addition to this, Blade and Jordan’s younger brother, Oliver aged 7, has severe Autism.
The family faces extensive, long-term medical expenses and the need for significant daily care. Already having to quit, one job the situation is placing considerable financial stress on their mother who will eventually become a full time carer. The children and their mum have recently had to move out of the family home and in with Blade’s grandparents, which has added extra pressure to finances and living conditions.
This beautiful family would really appreciate your support so please donate what you can to the Hill family to help with their medical and living expenses.
